Utahns are uninsured. Approximately 110,000 uninsured individuals
live in Salt Lake County (12% of the total Salt Lake County
population).

equivalent to $19,1400 for a single individual or $38,700

Young: Over 90% of the uninsured
in Salt Lake County are under 49 years of age. |

Ethnic and Racial Minorities: Hispanics
in Salt Lake County are three times as likely to be
uninsured as Non-Hispanics. Native Americans, Blacks
and Pacific Islanders are also more likely to be uninsured
than Whites. |

DO THE UNINSURED GO FOR MEDICAL CARE IN SALT LAKE
COUNTY? |

Approximately
30,000 (27%) uninsured individuals receive affordable
primary
care services at Community Health Centers, Wasatch
Homeless Health Care, Intermountain Community and Schools Clinics, and
other community clinics. These clinics charge uninsured
patients a discounted fee based on their income and
family size. Lack of additional funding for facilities
and operations currently prevents these organizations
from opening additional clinics to meet the needs
of the entire uninsured population. |

Approximately 23,000
(21%) uninsured individuals report that their usual
point of access
to medical care is a hospital emergency room or an
urgent care center. |

Approximately 43,000
(39%) uninsured individuals report that they do not
have a primary
care provider or usual place of care. |
